Director of Behavioral Services
The Director of Behavioral Health provides senior level supervisory leadership and direction for the Behavioral Health Services Department. Directly supervises and manages the operations of the department to ensure that high-quality mental health services are provided to clients seeking community based mental health services.
Supports the Mission, Vision & Guiding Principles of NHS-Northstar.
Lead management team member responsible for profitable business growth within the Behavioral Health Services Department and is a subject-matter expert in the area of community-based mental health treatment for the organization.
Consult and coordinate with external mental health professionals to promote services and establish credibility; serve on community panels, boards, or coalitions related to the field of mental health; develop new areas for expansion and growth; manage licensing application processes as they relate to the Behavioral Services Department.
Supervise all department personnel; meet with personnel regularly to review client workloads and specific client progress; provide regular written and verbal feedback to staff.
Conduct initial client intakes; screen client for appropriateness of services; assign client to appropriate ARMHS personnel.
Model appropriate boundaries and client/provider relationships; mentor staff in building similar structures; coach new providers in managing the client/provider relationship.
Regularly review treatment documentation completed by subordinate staff to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compensability; develop “self-audit” systems which allow line staff to engage in an interactive learning process.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in the field of Psychology, Sociology or a related discipline is required for this position, Master’s Degree preferred.
Must meet the qualifications described in Minnesota law for the designation of “Mental Health Practitioner” or “Mental Health Professional.
Three years of experience working in Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services.
Three years of direct supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
Additional training in the field of mental health services is strongly preferred.
Valid Minnesota Driver’s License.
Department of Human Services Background Check.
